A birthday gift for kids that is still around next year

Toys get outgrown. Chocolate is gone by evening. Clothes get handed down. A book with the birthday child illustrated on every page goes on a shelf, gets read at bedtime, and gets shown to visiting grandparents for years.

The printed book

Softcover or hardcover, printed and posted across India. Order at least a fortnight ahead if the date is fixed.

Left it late?

Give the PDF first

Several parents have given the PDF on the day and the printed copy when it arrived. The child gets the story on their birthday either way.

Buying for a child who is not your own

What you need

Their first name, their age, and one clear photo of their face. A phone photo is fine. Ask the parent for a recent one — most are glad to be asked.

Choosing the story

Pick a theme the child already loves: dinosaurs, space, a Krishna story, a unicorn. If you know their favourite thing, describe it and the story is built around it.

Getting the age right

A three-year-old wants short sentences and a bedtime rhythm. A nine-year-old wants a plot. The writing follows the age you enter, so it matters more than the theme.

What the child actually unwraps

Worth knowing before you choose between the PDF and the printed book.

Sixteen pages

A full story with a beginning and an ending, not a few lines under a picture. Long enough to be a bedtime read for a week.

Their face throughout

Not one portrait at the front. They are in every illustration — climbing, hiding, laughing — which is what makes a child keep turning the page.

A dedication from you

The page before the story carries your message and your name, printed inside the book. It is the part parents photograph.

What gift buyers ask

How much does a birthday gift book cost?
The digital PDF is ₹249. Printed books start at ₹749 and go up for hardcover and multi-story bundles. Making and reading the book first costs nothing.
Can I write a message in it?
Yes — there is a dedication page before the story. Most people write a line like "Happy 6th birthday, from Nani and Nana". It prints inside the book, so it is part of the gift rather than a card that gets lost.
Can I give it without the parents knowing in advance?
You will need a photo, so one parent usually has to be in on it. Beyond that, nothing is sent to them — it comes to your address unless you ask otherwise.
Is gift wrapping available?
Yes, it can be added to a printed order. The book arrives wrapped and ready to hand over.
What if the photo does not work well?
You see the illustrations before you pay. If the likeness is not right, change the photo and make it again at no cost.

See the book before you commit to it

Make it, read it, and only then decide whether it is the gift you want to give. Buying a birthday present you have already read is a better position than hoping.
