Aahana sat on her bed, excited about Janmashtami. With bright yellow dhoti and a peacock-feather crown, she felt special. Her parent helped tie the golden waistband, and Aahana picked up a small wooden flute. She gazed into the mirror and whispered, "Today, I am little Krishna!"

Aahana looked around. The sun shone down, cows grazed peacefully, and the sweet scent of flowers filled the air. But something was wrong. The gopalas, her friends, hurried over, looking worried. "Aahana! The Yamuna River has turned black! Fish are floating belly-up, and the cows won’t drink!"

Aahana felt a flutter of fear, but then she remembered little Krishna’s bravery. She ran toward the kadamba tree, its branches reaching out like a welcoming friend. Climbing high, she took a deep breath, her heart beating like a drum. With a quick leap, she charged into the dark water below!

Kaliya hissed, but not as loudly anymore. Aahana smiled, feeling the rhythm of the dance in her heart. As she danced, Kaliya's fierce demeanor softened. She saw his wives, the naginis, rise up beside him, watching with sparkling eyes as they unfolded their hoods.

The naginis looked worried, and Aahana said, "Dear Kaliya, why not leave the Yamuna and swim in the ocean? It is vast and deep, just like your heart!" Kaliya paused, thinking. Aahana continued to dance, her movements light and joyful. The river bubbled around them.
