Aahana's Forest of Gifts

A personalised storybook starring Aahana, age 5

Aahana steps into a magical forest and meets four different friends in four different places — a tall tree, a flower meadow, a stream, and a cozy burrow. Each friend shares something small and special with her. Through each meeting, Aahana learns that even tiny gifts, when given with care, make the biggest magic. By the end, she carries the warmth of these forest friendships home with her.

Aahana found a blue door in her garden. It was small and glowed softly. She took a breath and opened it. Behind the door was a forest. Tall trees stretched to the sky. Sunlight came down in golden stripes. Aahana stepped inside. Her shoes made a soft sound on the moss.

The first thing Aahana saw was an enormous oak tree. Its branches were so wide they made a room of shade below. Under the tree, Aahana found a rabbit sitting on a log. The rabbit had kind eyes and soft grey fur. It looked up at Aahana and smiled.

Hello, said the rabbit. I am Clover. This big tree is my home. See how it keeps me cool and safe? The tree is tall, and I am small. But we help each other. The rabbit showed Aahana the roots. They went deep, deep into the earth. The tree pulls water up for everyone.

Clover gave Aahana a gift. It was a smooth stone, warm from the sun. Keep this, said Clover. It remembers the warmth of our tree. Aahana held it close. She felt it was special. She put it in her pocket and thanked Clover with a hug.

Aahana walked deeper into the forest. Soon the trees opened up. There was a big meadow full of flowers. Red ones, yellow ones, purple ones. They swayed in the breeze like they were dancing. Aahana laughed. She had never seen so many colors in one place.

A small butterfly landed on Aahana's shoulder. Her wings were bright blue. I am Sunny, said the butterfly. I live here with my flower friends. But I need the tall trees too. They give us shade when it gets too hot. Nothing in the forest stands alone.

Sunny flew to a flower and brought back a seed. This is for you, she said. Plant it when you go home. It will grow into a flower that butterflies love. Aahana tucked the seed into her pocket next to the stone. Two gifts now. She felt her heart grow bigger.

Aahana followed a soft sound. It was water. Soon she came to a stream that sparkled like silver. Small fish swam in circles. A turtle sat on a rock. The turtle was very old. He had a shell with patterns like a map.

The turtle's name was River. He had lived in this stream for many years. The forest feeds me, said River. The leaves fall and make the water rich. The trees keep the water cool. I stay here and remember all the seasons. Would you like to stay awhile?

Aahana sat by the water. River showed her how to listen. Can you hear the forest breathing? he asked. The wind in the leaves. The water over rocks. The birds calling far away. Aahana closed her eyes. Yes. She heard it all. It was like a song.

River gave Aahana a gift too. It was a small shell, smooth and perfect. This came from far away, he said. The water carries gifts from other places. You carry gifts too, Aahana. Wherever you go, you bring something good. She held the shell. Three gifts. Three friends.

As the sun began to set, Aahana heard a soft voice. Hello there. A young fox peeked out from a burrow in the ground. His name was Ember. This is my home, he said. Under the earth. Safe and warm. The roots of the big trees grow near here too.

Ember was shy at first. But Aahana sat very still. Soon he came and sat beside her. We all need homes, said Ember. Mine is small and dark. But I love it. The forest gives me everything I need. A mother's warmth. A place to sleep. Friends to visit.

Ember gave Aahana his gift last. It was a feather, soft and brown. I found this, he said. I don't know which bird it came from. But it reminds me that all creatures here are friends. You are our friend too, Aahana. Will you remember us?

The blue door appeared at the edge of the forest. Aahana's four friends walked with her. She held the stone, the seed, the shell, and the feather. In her heart, she held something bigger. She held the feeling of being cared for. Of being part of something beautiful and alive.

Aahana stepped back through the blue door into her garden. The forest faded, but not the gifts. She planted the seed that very day. She put the stone on her shelf. The shell and feather too. Every time she saw them, she remembered her friends. And she was never lonely again.
