Shreya and the Spoke of Adventure
A personalised storybook starring Shreya, age 10
On an Alpine pass, Shreya embarks on an adventure when she discovers a shiny spoke lost by the yellow-jersey rider. With the help of her tinkering grandpa, Shreya learns the importance of quick thinking and teamwork as she races against time to return it before the peloton passes by. This tale of courage and cleverness is inspired by the Tour de France 2026.

High up on the majestic Alpine pass, the sun shone brightly on a sea of wildflowers. Shreya sat by the campfire, her grandpa tinkering away at his latest project. Suddenly, a loud whoosh echoed through the air as the yellow-jersey rider zipped past, his bike gleaming. But wait! A shiny spoke had slipped from his wheel and tumbled into the grass!

Shreya's eyes glinted with excitement as she spotted the silver flash among the vibrant petals. "Grandpa, look!" she exclaimed, pointing. Together, they rushed to where the spoke lay nestled among the blooms. Shreya felt a thrill. What if she could help the rider? Time was ticking!

Her grandpa chuckled, "Let’s fix it! A spoke keeps a wheel stable and balanced, just like the spokes of a bike help it glide smoothly." Shreya nodded, remembering her bike rides down the hill near their home. With a spark of determination, she took the spoke in hand, ready to make things right.

Back at their camp, Grandpa led Shreya to a tiny workshop filled with tools. "First, we need to straighten it out," he explained, handing her a small hammer. Shreya felt nervous but resolute. She hammered carefully, her heart racing as she thought of the cyclist speeding away without his spoke.

With each tap, the spoke transformed, becoming straight and shiny again. Shreya beamed with pride. "I did it!" she cheered. Grandpa smiled, seeing the joy in her eyes. But there was no time to waste! They raced back toward the winding path to catch the peloton.

Just as they reached the edge of the road, the sound of whirring tires filled the air. Shreya's heart pounded. She spotted the yellow-jersey rider ahead, a brilliant flash of color cutting through the blue sky. 'This is it!' she thought. She waved her arms, hoping to get his attention!

The rider spotted her and skidded to a halt. Shreya rushed forward, the spoke in her hand shining like a treasure. “You dropped this!” she shouted, holding it out with a grin. The rider looked surprised and grateful, his eyes widening in awe at her quick thinking.

The rider smiled, swiftly taking the spoke from her. “Thank you! You saved my race!” With a quick adjustment, he fixed his bike, his confidence restored. Shreya felt a warm glow in her chest, knowing she had helped in an important moment. It was all so exhilarating!

As the rider sped off, joining the peloton thundering down the mountainside, Shreya felt a rush of pride. Her heart raced with excitement, not just from the thrill of the race, but knowing she had contributed to something special. She turned to her grandpa, who beamed with pride.

“You showed great courage, Shreya,” he said, ruffling her hair. “Sometimes, even tiny actions can lead to big victories. Just like riders depend on their spokes for balance, we depend on each other for support.” Shreya nodded, her spirit soaring as high as the mountains around her.

As they settled back at their campsite, Shreya felt a new sense of adventure rising within her. She looked at the wildflowers and smiled, thinking of the rider, the spoke, and the magic of teamwork. Maybe next time, she could join the race herself, perhaps one day in that bright yellow jersey.
